About Us

In 2013-14, we collected more than $13 billion in revenue generated from payroll tax, land tax, duties on land transfers and a range of other duties and levies.

The State Revenue Office (SRO) administers Victoria’s taxation legislation and collects vital revenue which funds schools, hospitals, police, roads and other government services.

We also administered the First Home Owner Grant (FHOG), the Growth Areas Infrastructure Contribution, unclaimed money, and supported the water and sewerage rebate scheme. From 1 July 2013 we administered the Fire Services Property Levy, which is collected with council rates.

Our office acts under a framework agreement between the Victorian Treasurer, the Secretary of the Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF), and the Commissioner of State Revenue. We are located at 121 Exhibition Street in Melbourne and the Ballarat Technology Park, while providing an increasing range of services through our website.

Full financial reports and other annual reporting requirements appear in DTF’s annual report. This document provides complementary information to that report.
